The Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has secured a €117,000 (roughly N200 million) grant from the European Union to develop a solar-powered built-in aquaponics system, specializing in catfish manufacturing alongside vegetable and maize farming.
The grant was awarded below the venture Built-in Aquaponics System for Sustainable Catfish Manufacturing and Twin-Crop Cultivation of Leafy Greens and Corn (AQUACLEC).
The initiative is being coordinated by Dr. Funmilayo Doherty, Director of the Centre for Analysis Assist and Grants Administration at Yabatech, with technical experience from the University of Lagos, College of Turku, and College of Lapland.
Doherty can be the Director of Centre for Analysis Assist and Grants Administration, Yaba College of Technology.
Boosting meals safety with innovation
In response to Yabatech’s spokesman, Mr. Adekunle Adams, the venture was aimed toward advancing meals safety by means of growth of a solar-powered aquaponics system that built-in catfish manufacturing with vegetable and maize farming.
“Yabatech has recorded one other main breakthrough in analysis and innovation after securing a grant of 17,000 Euros, equal to over N200,000,000, from the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme,” he acknowledged.
The spokesperson disclosed that the grant would allow institution of an area innovation hub in Lagos, testing and replication of the system, and promotion of sustainable agriculture and community-based meals resilience.
Aligning analysis with world challenges
He added that Dr. Doherty attributed the success to Yabatech’s drive to align analysis with nationwide and world challenges, below the management of Dr Ibraheem Abdul.
Doherty famous that deliberate efforts by the school to bridge the hole between technical schooling and real-world wants to organize Nigerian youths to compete favourably in each native and world areas.
