The Impartial Petroleum Entrepreneurs Affiliation of Nigeria (IPMAN), Western Zone, has introduced it will shut down all operations from Monday, September 8, citing the alleged risk of monopoly by Dangote Refinery and MRS Power Ltd within the downstream petroleum sector.
The choice was taken at a zonal council assembly on Saturday, which introduced collectively council members, officers, depot chairmen, and secretaries from throughout the South West, based on the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN).
The strike can be in solidarity with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Pure Fuel Employees (NUPENG) over job safety considerations for petroleum tanker drivers.
Chatting with NAN in Ibadan, Chief Oyewole Akanni, Chairman of IPMAN Western Zone, mentioned the entry of Dangote Refinery and MRS Power into petrol distribution threatens the survival of IPMAN members’ companies.
“The Impartial Petroleum Entrepreneurs Affiliation of Nigeria (IPMAN), Western Zone, says it is going to shut down operations from Monday, Sept. 8, to protest what it described as makes an attempt to monopolise the downstream sector.
The decision was reached on Saturday at a zonal council assembly, which introduced collectively council members, officers, depot chairmen, and secretaries throughout the 5 depots within the South West. The Chairman of the zone, Chief Oyewole Akanni, acknowledged this in an interview with the Information Company of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan after the assembly,” the NAN report learn partly.
It added, “Akanni mentioned the deliberate entry of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Firm into petrol distribution, alongside MRS Power Ltd, posed a severe risk to the survival of IPMAN members’ companies.’
Akanni famous that IPMAN members function over 4,000 vans, warning that many drivers and motor boys danger dropping their jobs and that 1000’s of members’ investments may very well be jeopardized.
He argued that the transfer violates the Petroleum Trade Act (PIA), which bars corporations that refine crude oil from straight distributing merchandise, describing it as a flagrant breach of the legislation.
The chairman pressured that the strike is a collective choice, with all council members, officers, depot chairmen, and secretaries anticipated to conform, guaranteeing no stations open from Monday.
