An ex officio member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 9, Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has threatened legal action over the alleged use of his name and signature in the purported suspension of Eseme Eyiboh.
The member, Prophet Edet Ben, rejected the suspension process, describing it as fraudulent and non-existent.
In an affidavit before a High Court in Uyo, Ben said no meeting was held on April 22, 2026, to discuss or approve any disciplinary action.
“There was no meeting. I did not attend any gathering where such a decision was taken,” he stated.
He also denied endorsing any document linked to the suspension, alleging that his name and signature were forged and included in an attendance list without his consent.
Ben further disowned a “Letter of Suspension” reportedly sent to party leaders at the chapter and state levels, insisting he did not know of it.
In a separate notice, he demanded the immediate removal of his name from all documents tied to the suspension and called for a public retraction.
“Stop using my identity without my consent,” he warned.
He added that failure to comply within 24 hours would lead to legal action.
The disputed suspension, announced by a faction within the ward, accused Eyiboh, a special adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, of anti-party activities.
The move has, however, drawn criticism from some stakeholders.
A grassroots political group, Ward Nine New Era, described the action as malicious, baseless and void.
The group questioned the process that led to the decision.
The group said due process was not followed and wondered why Eyiboh was singled out, even though other party leaders who attended the same stakeholders’ meeting were not sanctioned.
It listed some of the leaders to include former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Sir Bassey Dan-Abia; former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Bassey Essien; former lawmaker, Hon. Usoro Akpan-Uso; and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Ini Adiakpan.
The group urged party members to disregard the suspension.
