Following Burnley’s Premier League relegation, Scott Parker resigned as head coach by mutual consent, the club announced on Thursday.
After one season back in the English top division, Burnley confirmed in a statement that Parker and the board had “mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude.”
Parker guided the Clarets to promotion the previous season, but they have only won four league games this year.
Two days after Wolves were demoted, Burnley’s fate was sealed on April 22 with a 1-0 home loss to Manchester City.
In July 2024, Parker, who had previously managed Fulham, Bournemouth, and Club Brugge in Belgium, signed a three-year contract to take over for Vincent Kompany.
He managed an incredible 2024–2025 Championship campaign that saw them return to the Premier League at the first attempt, with a 31-match winning streak and 30 clean sheets.
However, Burnley has given up the most goals of any team in 34 league games this season (68), and third-tier teams eliminated them from the FA Cup and League Cup.
In a statement, Burnley said, “The club would like to put on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication, and contribution.”
“Everyone associated with Burnley Football Club respects and is grateful for him as he departs.”
Parker, a 45-year-old former England midfielder, described leading Burnley as a “immense privilege” in a statement posted on the team’s website.
“I feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction, but I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together,” he remarked.
“It was a true honor to lead this team into the Premier League, and I look back with great pride on what we accomplished during my time at the club, especially our unforgettable promotion season in 2024/25.”
The team announced that Mike Jackson, Parker’s assistant, will be in charge of the team’s four remaining Premier League games, starting on Friday at Leeds United.
Prior to the 2026–2027 season, it stated that the process of selecting a new permanent head coach had started.
