At a media briefing on Wednesday, the university’s president, Dewayne Frazier, said the impending graduation carries meaning far beyond academic success. He described it as a moment that reflects courage, endurance and the ability to rebuild after profound hardship.

Frazier said the achievement aligns with the institution’s broader mission to support development and transformation, particularly in regions affected by conflict. He noted that the graduates now represent hope not only for the North-East but for communities facing similar challenges elsewhere.

He also acknowledged the support of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, which sponsored the students through their studies, describing the intervention as crucial to their success.

The abduction that changed their lives took place on April 14, 2014, when 276 girls were taken from their school in Borno State by insurgents. While dozens escaped on the night of the incident and many others have since been released, more than 80 are still believed to be unaccounted for.
