For six unforgettable days in Hjørring, Denmark, the world’s finest young footballers battled for honours at the 2026 Dana Cup, one of the globe’s most prestigious youth football tournaments.
The tournament, held from July 20 to July 25, attracted 946 teams from 56 countries, with approximately 2,600 matches played across 62 pitches. Nearly 30,000 players, coaches, officials and supporters converged on the Danish city, turning it into a melting pot of cultures united by the beautiful game.
Amid the sea of international talent, one Nigerian academy stood tall.
Dazzle FC, a Lagos-based youth football academy, delivered one of the tournament’s most memorable performances, with its U12 side emerging champions on their debut appearance while the U14 team fought gallantly to finish as runners-up.
The academy’s exploits were not merely about winning matches. They reflected years of investment in youth development, discipline and technical excellence, proving that Nigerian grassroots football can compete—and triumph—on the international stage.

From the opening whistle of their first match to the final blast in the championship game, Dazzle FC combined ruthless attacking football with remarkable defensive organisation to complete a flawless tournament.

Opponents struggled to cope with the pace, movement and confidence of the Nigerian youngsters as Dazzle FC swept aside teams from different parts of the world. Their commanding victories included a 17-0 demolition of SV Schwansen, an 11-0 triumph over Hasle-Løren IL, a 12-1 rout of Bønes IL, a 9-1 victory against FC Duevej 2 and a comfortable 6-0 win over NSA.

The biggest test arrived in the semi-finals, where Brazilian side RS Sports pushed Dazzle FC all the way. The Nigerian youngsters responded with composure beyond their years, securing a hard-earned 2-1 victory to book their place in the final.
Awaiting them was Mexican side IFAC in what proved to be an intense and fiercely contested encounter.
With neither side able to find a breakthrough in regulation time, the match stretched into extra time before Akinremi Abdullahi produced the defining moment of the tournament. His decisive strike secured a 1-0 victory and handed Dazzle FC their first-ever Dana Cup title, sparking emotional celebrations among players, coaches and supporters.
While the U12 side celebrated championship glory, the academy’s U14 team was quietly putting together an impressive campaign of its own.
After progressing through the group stage with confidence, they navigated the knockout rounds to reach the Play-Off A final, demonstrating resilience, tactical discipline and maturity throughout the competition.
The final against Palestinian side Rawahel lived up to expectations, with both teams cancelling each other out in a fiercely contested contest. When penalties became unavoidable, fortune smiled on the opposition, who prevailed 5-3 to deny Dazzle FC a second title.
Despite the disappointment, the runners-up finish did little to diminish the team’s outstanding achievement.
There was further cause for celebration when goalkeeper Ojerinde Toheeb was named the Best Player in the U14 category after a series of commanding displays. The talented shot-stopper kept three clean sheets in five matches, producing crucial saves that underpinned Dazzle FC’s remarkable journey to the final.
