South African singer Tyla, has removed Lagos from the list of states to perform during her upcoming A*POP World Tour. The change, publicised on Friday, came shortly after the previously scheduled concert drew criticism across social media.
The negative opinions stemmed from the reports of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa. Several public figures, including content creator Solomon Buchi and media personality Dotun, publicly urged Nigerians to boycott the concert. They described the campaign as a symbolic protest against the alleged xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians in South Africa.
Despite removing Lagos from the tour schedule, Tyla is still expected to conclude the A*POP World Tour with performances in Cape Town and Johannesburg in January. The Lagos concert was previously scheduled for December 22,
The Grammy-winning singer and her management, are however, yet to issue an official statement addressing the latest change in the tour’s itinerary.
