Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid growing political tensions within the party in Kwara State.
Mustapha announced his decision on Thursday through his verified Facebook page, publishing a resignation letter dated August 14 and addressed to the APC chairman in Gambari Ward 1, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
He said he reached the decision after weeks of consultations with stakeholders, supporters and constituents across Kwara Central.
“Following careful consideration of the recent developments in the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, I have formally resigned my membership of the party in the state,” he stated.
The senator said the decision was not taken lightly, adding: “This is not a decision I have taken lightly. It follows weeks of extensive consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders, my supporters, constituents across Kwara Central Senatorial District, and well-meaning Kwarans.”
Mustapha, who was elected on the APC platform, said his political choices had always been driven by his commitment to people, principles and purpose.
“Where the path of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with these convictions and the aspirations of the people one represents, the honourable thing to do is to chart a new course,” he said.
He thanked President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for the relationships and experience gained during his time in the party.
“To my constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State and beyond, I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” Mustapha said.
“I remain steadfast in my service to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria at large.”
His resignation comes as political realignments intensify in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections. Mustapha had been linked to G15/TOP, a group of aggrieved APC stakeholders in the state.
