709–37! Oyebamiji delivers stunning blow to Adeleke at his Polling Unit

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, delivered a stunning electoral statement at his polling unit in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday, recording a landslide victory over incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party.

Results from Polling Unit 011, Open Space, Gantry Sawmill, Ikire, showed Oyebamiji polling 709 votes to Adeleke’s 37 votes, giving the APC candidate a massive 672-vote margin.

The result sheet, Form EC8A, showed that 753 votes were declared valid at the polling unit. The ADC candidate received six votes, while the ADP secured one vote. Other participating parties recorded zero votes.

Oyebamiji’s 709 votes represented more than 94 per cent of the valid votes cast at the polling unit, while Adeleke secured less than five per cent.

The scale of the victory is significant because the polling unit is Oyebamiji’s own voting centre, where the APC candidate secured an overwhelming majority of the votes in Saturday’s keenly contested Osun governorship election.

The result came as counting and collation continued across the state, with early figures showing a tight contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji. Reports from the ongoing collation indicated that Adeleke had maintained a narrow statewide lead at one stage after results from hundreds of wards were collated.

However, Oyebamiji’s commanding performance at his own polling unit stands out among the emerging results, demonstrating the strength of his support base in the area.

According to the result sheet, 764 ballot papers were used, with 753 eventually declared valid and 10 rejected. The Presiding Officer, Amusan Olabode Martins, signed the result, which was dated August 15, 2026.
