APM sweeps Bauchi LG poll, wins all 20 chairmanship seats

The Allied Peoples Movement, APM, has swept Monday’s local government election in Bauchi State, winning all 20 chairmanship seats.

The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, BASIEC, also declared APM candidates winners in 319 of the 323 councillorship seats contested across the state.

BASIEC Chairperson, Jummai Abubakar, announced the results after the conclusion of voting, counting, collation and verification.

“Following the conclusion of voting, counting, collation and verification, I, Jummai Abubakar, Chairperson of BASIEC, hereby declare that all 20 APM candidates emerged victorious as Chairmen of the respective Local Government Areas,” she said.

According to the commission, Bappah Aliyu won Alkaleri with 107,482 votes, while Umar Mohammed secured Bauchi Local Government Area with 125,170 votes.

Zakka Luka won Bogoro with 25,282 votes, Iliya Isah took Dambam with 19,730 votes, while Ya’u Sade emerged victorious in Darazo with 67,276 votes.

Mohammed Jibo won Dass with 35,264 votes; Ali Babayo secured Gamawa with 54,423 votes, while Mohammed Idris won Ganjuwa with 24,150 votes.

Mustapha Musa won Giade with 33,864 votes, Dankawuwa Ya’u took Itas/Gadau with 24,989 votes and Inuwa Abdullahi emerged winner in Jama’are with 36,766 votes.

Yusuf Babayo Zaki won Katagum with 65,626 votes, Garba Musa secured Kirfi with 24,787 votes, while Salisu Hussaini won Misau with 34,378 votes.

Yahuza Adamu Haruna emerged winner in Ningi after polling 29,387 votes.

Former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi, won Shira with 37,135 votes.

Sama’ila Wakili secured Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, while Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo won Toro with 109,999 votes.

Habibu Idris won Warji with 43,066 votes, while Mas’ud Aliyu secured Zaki with 19,984 votes.

The remaining four councillorship seats went to four opposition parties.

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA, while the National Rescue Movement, NRM, secured Darazo South Ward.

The Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, won Wandi Ward in Dass, while the Young Progressive Party, YPP, took Zirami Ward in Giade.

Abubakar said BASIEC had confirmed the successful candidates as duly elected after they met the legal requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes in their respective constituencies.

She also commended Governor Bala Mohammed for supporting the commission, insisting that the election was conducted independently and in accordance with the law.

The BASIEC chairperson congratulated residents of the state and the successful candidates on the conclusion of the exercise.
