The Central Bank of Nigeria is auctioning off N700 billion in Treasury Bills today, August 26, the second and final sale scheduled for the month.
It’s looking for bids of N100 billion for the 91-day bills, N100 billion for 182-day bills and N500 billion for 364-day bills.
The previous auction on August 12 saw strong demand, with investors bidding N4.4 trillion against N700 billion available.
The 364-day bills attracted the most interest at N4.19 trillion in subscriptions.
The CBN ended up distributing roughly N1.46 trillion, more than initially offered, while the rate on 364-day bills rose from 17.35 to 17.59 percent.
Today’s auction results will show how appealing government bonds remain to investors and which direction short-term interest rates are heading.
Market watchers will pay close attention to the 364-day bills to see whether the CBN maintains the higher rates seen at the last auction or begins lowering rates like it did throughout July.
This auction fits into the CBN’s N5.8 trillion Treasury Bills plan for the third quarter of 2026.
