Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared that the state is fully prepared to host the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, promising an event that will reflect Nigeria’s hospitality and organisational capacity.
The governor gave the assurance while receiving a CAF inspection delegation that visited the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos, ahead of the prestigious ceremony.
According to Sanwo-Olu, Lagos possesses the infrastructure, experience and vibrant cultural appeal required to deliver a successful continental event.
He said the state government would work closely with CAF, the Federal Government and the Nigeria Football Federation to ensure the awards meet international standards.
“We are honoured that Lagos has been chosen to host this prestigious event. We are ready to showcase the best of our city and our country to Africa and the rest of the world,” the governor said.
The inspection team assessed facilities at the venue and reviewed logistics as part of preparations for the ceremony, which is expected to bring together leading football personalities from across the continent.
Hosting the awards is expected to boost tourism, hospitality and commercial activities in Lagos, while reinforcing the state’s reputation as a preferred destination for major international sporting and entertainment events.
Nigeria secured the hosting rights for the 2026 CAF Awards, with Lagos selected as the venue for the ceremony. The event will recognise the continent’s outstanding footballers, coaches, officials and teams for their achievements during the year.
State officials expressed confidence that preparations would continue according to schedule, with the government committed to providing the necessary support for a successful and memorable awards ceremony.
