The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) could be heading for a major leadership shake-up, with reports suggesting that the Ibrahim Gusau-led board may soon step down.
Amid the expected changes, former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has emerged as one of the names being considered for the NFF presidency.
Sources indicate that Olofinjana enjoys the backing of some influential figures within the National Sports Commission (NSC), who may support his emergence as a potential candidate for the federation’s top position.
The 46-year-old has built significant experience in football administration and management since retiring from professional football.
Olofinjana previously worked with Wolverhampton Wanderers as Loans Pathway Manager before taking up the role of Sporting Director at Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zürich.
In 2024, he joined Chelsea as Head of Scouting, where he has been involved in identifying and assessing footballing talent across Africa.
Beyond his professional experience, Olofinjana holds a UEFA Pro Licence as well as master’s degrees in Sports Directorship and Project Management.
His combination of playing experience, football administration and scouting expertise could make him a strong contender if the NFF leadership contest takes shape.
With uncertainty surrounding the federation’s leadership, Olofinjana is now among the names to watch as Nigerian football potentially enters a new era.
