Lookman powers Atletico Madrid to big victory at Sevilla

By Kazeem Ugbodaga

Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman scored as Atletico Madrid secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Sevilla in their LaLiga encounter on Saturday.

Lookman doubled Atletico’s advantage in the 26th minute, finding space inside the penalty area before calmly sending Pablo Barrios’ pass into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-0.

The goal capped a strong attacking display from the Nigerian, who remained a threat to Sevilla’s defence throughout his time on the pitch. He had earlier tested the hosts with a shot from just outside the box that was blocked.

Atletico had taken the lead as early as the fourth minute when Alex Baena converted Kang-In Lee’s assist, putting the visitors in control. Baena then struck again in the 33rd minute with a superb effort from the edge of the penalty area to give Atletico a commanding 3-0 lead.

Sevilla pulled one back in the 66th minute through Miguel Sierra, who reacted quickest to a rebound inside the box. However, Atletico held firm for the remainder of the contest to claim all three points.

Lookman’s evening ended in the 66th minute when Diego Simeone replaced him with Arnau Ortiz as Atletico reshuffled their attack.

The Nigerian had appeared to score again shortly after the restart, but the effort was ruled out for offside. He also saw another attempt from the edge of the box blocked before eventually making way.
