Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has dismissed the possibility of signing Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, despite describing the teenage star as a “very good player”.
Mourinho was asked about Yamal as speculation continues to surround the future of some of Europe’s most highly rated young players.
The Portuguese coach acknowledged the Barcelona forward’s quality but said he had no intention of bringing him to Madrid.
“I won’t sign him. We already have the best players,” Mourinho said, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The remark underlines Mourinho’s confidence in the squad at his disposal, with the Real Madrid boss insisting that his team already possesses enough quality without having to pursue the Barcelona youngster.
Yamal has emerged as one of football’s most prominent young talents, earning widespread recognition for his performances and technical ability.
While Mourinho was complimentary about the 19-year-old, his comments make it clear that admiration does not translate into an intention to recruit him.
The Madrid coach also discussed the club’s signing of Yan Diomande, revealing that although he did not specifically request the transfer, he wanted the young winger at the club.
“No, I did not ask, but I wanted him. He’s a great player who can play on both sides,” Mourinho said.
Real Madrid will begin their La Liga campaign away to Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday.
