The NEWGOLD Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) emerged as the standout performer in the exchange-traded fund segment on Monday after gaining more than 7 percent to outperform the broader Nigerian stock market as investors increased exposure to alternative investment vehicles.
Trading data showed that NEWGOLD rose from N95,100.01 to N101,937.00, representing a gain of N6,836.99, or approximately 7.19 percent, making it the best-performing ETF of the trading session.
The rally came as the broader equity market remained under pressure. The NGX All-Share Index declined 0.11 percent to close at 239,085.17 points, while equity market capitalisation slipped to N154.40 trillion, extending the market’s recent correction.
The positive sentiment was evident across the ETF segment.
VSPBONDETF advanced N11.45 to close at N225.00, while VETINDETF gained N9.80 to settle at N119.80.
GREENWETF appreciated N2.70 to N740.70, and VETBANK added N1.39 to close at N31.39.
Unlike the equity market, where the benchmark index finished lower, every major ETF among the session’s top performers recorded gains, highlighting renewed investor interest in diversified investment products.
The bond market, however, remained largely unchanged.
Leading fixed-income securities including AXA2027S1, CEMC2045S1, COLE26CPS6, DAN2034S1 and FG182032S2 all closed at their previous prices, indicating limited movement in the fixed-income segment.
The combination of a weaker equity market, stable bond prices and broad gains across exchange-traded funds suggests investors rotated into diversified investment vehicles rather than exiting the market altogether.
NEWGOLD’s more than 7 percent advance made it the clear standout in the ETF market, reinforcing investor appetite for alternative assets during a period of sustained volatility in Nigerian equities.
