Ogogo’s cancer battle takes crucial turn

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has been admitted to an operating theatre as doctors intensify efforts to treat his stage-four cancer.

Actress Toyosi Adesanya disclosed the development in an Instagram post, expressing optimism that the procedure would be successful.

“Senator Yayi personally reached out to top cancer specialists, and we are grateful to learn that Ogogo has now been admitted to the operating theatre for treatment,” she wrote.

Adesanya also prayed for the actor’s recovery and thanked Nigerians who responded to the family’s earlier appeal for medical assistance.

“We pray for a successful procedure, complete recovery, renewed strength and many more years of good health for our beloved Nollywood legend,” she said.

Ogogo’s daughters, Kira and Lima, had earlier revealed that their father was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical specialists who could review his condition and recommend further treatment.

Kira said the family discovered the severity of the illness about three weeks earlier and that the cancer had affected his abdomen.

She also said some hospitals had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer continue.

The family, however, stressed that it was not primarily seeking financial donations but access to medical professionals capable of exploring further treatment options.

Adesanya credited Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, with helping connect the actor to cancer specialists.

Ogogo’s daughters had earlier acknowledged the senator’s financial support for their father’s treatment.

Lima also disclosed that Adeola had promised to continue assisting the family with medical expenses.

Several Nollywood stars, including Femi Adebayo, Muyiwa Ademola and Bimbo Oshin, have since joined the appeal for support.

“A huge thank you to everyone who has prayed, offered suggestions, shared the appeal and shown concern for Ogogo,” Adesanya added.

“Ogogo, we are standing with you. You will come out stronger!”
