The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended two suspected members of a “one-chance” r0bbery syndicate operating within Abeokuta.
The suspects, identified as Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42, were detained on August 15 following an intelligence-driven operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit.
The arrests resulted from operational intelligence indicating that syndicate operatives, posing as commercial taxi drivers, had been observed in a vehicle heading toward Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta.
Acting on this information, tactical operatives pursued the fleeing suspects toward Ita-Oshin, successfully intercepting the vehicle and detaining both individuals.
Following interrogation, both suspects acknowledged active involvement in the “one-chance” r0bbery syndicate terrorising commuters throughout the Abeokuta metropolitan area.
Police operations are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend remaining syndicate members, establish the full scope of their criminal activities, and recover associated exhibits.
The state’s Commissioner of Police commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response, vigilance and tactical proficiency.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to suppressing criminal activity across the state, cautioning that offenders would face consequences and find no refuge in Ogun State.
He encouraged residents and commuters to maintain heightened awareness and report suspicious individuals or criminal incidents through designated police channels, including Gateway Shield at 0800 000 9111 and emergency lines 09164859299 and 09154293464.
