Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has opened a 16,843-vote lead over All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji as results from 10 local government areas are announced in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The results show Adeleke with a cumulative 143,234 votes, while Oyebamiji has secured 126,391 votes across the 10 LGAs.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, is a distant third with 3,774 votes.
Adeleke’s advantage has been driven largely by commanding performances in his strongholds, particularly Ede South, where he scored 26,188 votes against Oyebamiji’s 6,219, and Ife Central, where he polled 21,171 votes to the APC candidate’s 15,913.
The Accord candidate also won Ife North, Boluwaduro, Ilesha West and Ifedayo, according to the figures provided.
However, Oyebamiji has demonstrated significant strength in several of the newly added LGAs. The APC candidate won Ilesha East, polling 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280, while also taking Boripe with 19,963 votes to Adeleke’s 12,448.
Oyebamiji further edged Adeleke in Irepodun, where he secured 15,713 votes against 14,504, and in Obokun, where he polled 16,120 votes to Adeleke’s 12,023.
The figures therefore show a race that is far from settled. While Adeleke has built a sizeable overall advantage, Oyebamiji has begun closing the gap through strong performances in APC-leaning areas.
With results from only 10 of Osun’s 30 local government areas represented in the figures, the APC candidate still has substantial ground to cover, but his victories in Ilesha East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun indicate that the contest remains highly competitive.
