Barely days to the Osun State gubernatorial polls, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has charged officers and men of the command deployed for election security duties in the state to maintain the highest standards of discipline, neutrality and professional conduct throughout the exercise.
While addressing the personnel ahead of deployment, the police commissioner conveyed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, that all officers assigned to election duties must remain apolitical and impartial, while discharging their responsibilities strictly in accordance with the law and established rules of engagement.
Ojo Adekimi reminded the personnel that election security is a critical national assignment and warned against any conduct capable of compromising the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force or undermining public confidence in the electoral process, including extortion, fraternisation with political actors and unnecessary use of force.
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, in Ilorin on Thursday, said the CP directed the personnel to remain vigilant, maintain effective communication with their respective commanders and ensure the protection of lives and property, preservation of public order and a secure environment for citizens to exercise their franchise without intimidation or interference.
The police commissioner, expressed confidence in the preparedness of the deployed personnel and charged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the state police command throughout the assignment.
