The Lagos State Police Command and the Nigerian Army have deployed security personnel to the Ikola area of Lagos following a violent clash that left three people dead, two others injured and some buildings burnt.
The police command said in a statement that calm had been restored in the area after the incident, which occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to the command, preliminary information showed that the trouble began when some suspected area boys allegedly stopped a tricycle rider and demanded ₦200 from him.
The rider reportedly refused to pay the money, after which the group allegedly seized his tricycle.
The tricycle rider later returned to the area with some persons, leading to a violent confrontation between the two groups.
The clash reportedly resulted in the deaths of three people, while two others sustained injuries. Some buildings were also reportedly set ablaze during the violence.
The deceased and injured persons were taken to the Military Hospital in Yaba for necessary medical attention and other procedures.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, accompanied by the Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi, visited the scene to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.
The police command said operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Task Force, Tactical Squad, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Eko Strike Force and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) had been deployed to the area.
“The situation is firmly under control, and efforts are ongoing to prevent any further escalation,” the statement said.
The command said it had commenced an investigation into the incident and would ensure that anyone found culpable faced the full weight of the law.
The police urged residents and other members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could further heighten tension in the area.
Residents were also encouraged to provide the police with credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
The command assured the public that the situation was firmly under control and that security operatives would continue to monitor the area to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation.
