The Osun State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb armed robbery and other violent crimes with the arrest of suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and the recovery of firearms and live ammunition.
According to the police in a release on Thursday, a complainant from Ada, Osun State, reported on 17 August 2026 that his newly acquired Lexus Jeep had been stolen overnight by armed men.
Following the report, the Command’s Anti-Robbery Team immediately commenced a pursuit of the suspects using the stolen vehicle’s tracking devices.
“The operation yielded positive results two suspects namely: Johnson Friday ‘m’ aged 30 and Augustine Godwin, ‘m’ aged 28, were arrested at a filling station in Ibadan, Oyo State, during the process of refueling the stolen vehicle.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that, the suspects were on their way to deliver the stolen vehicle to a receiver at Idiroko. Furthermore, in their cautionary statements; they provided useful information that led to the arrest of two more members of the gang namely: Augustine Godday ‘m’ aged 18 and Semiu Ogunlowo ‘m’ aged 20, at Esa-Oke, Osun State.
“Further investigation based on information provided by the suspects led operatives to Ila-Orangun, where an AK-47 rifle with 13 rounds of live ammunition and one single-barrel firearm, used in the operation were recovered. The firearms were reportedly concealed in a sack and kept behind Godwin’s room. The investigation also led to the arrest of one Olamide Afeez ‘m’aged 29, who is acted as an informant to the robbery gang, and he is also a close friend to the complainant,” the release said.
Following this breakthroug, the Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, has commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its swift and professional response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Investigation is ongoing towards the possible arrest of the suspected receiver at Idiroko, as mentioned by the arrested suspects.
The command assured members of the public that all those found culpable would be made to face the full weight of the law, while further urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and useful information that can assist in preventing and combating crime.
