The colonel died instantly when his vehicle exploded on a highway.
His wife was critically injured and lost both legs in the blast.
The 53-year-old lieutenant colonel and military pilot was driving out of a car park when the explosion happened.
The blast tore the Chinese-made car apart.
Russian media said an improvised explosive device caused the explosion.
