Suspected armed robber nabbed with pistol, live cartridge in Enugu hotel

Police operatives have arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber identified as Chekwube Agboa with a locally made pistol and a live cartridge at a hotel in Obollo Etiti in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the Enugu Police Command said in a statement on Tuesday that the arrest of the suspect followed a citizen-supported operation.

According to him, police operatives arrested the suspect following receipt of a credible information on August 10, 2026, at about 1:45 p.m. on the suspicious activities of a young man who had arrived at a hotel, purportedly to lodge.

Acting on the information, police operatives stormed the hotel, searched the suspect’s bag where the locally made pistol and live cartridge were recovered.

Ndukwe said the Agbo was immediately arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.

The police spokesperson added that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang that specialized in threatening and robbing Point-of-Sale (POS) operators of their valuables.

He further stated that gang members of the suspect fled the scene upon his arrest.

“The suspect will be prosecuted in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” said Ndukwe.

He quoted Enugu Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa as commending the citizen who provided the timely information while and reiterating the importance of promptly providing the Police with credible information on suspicious persons and activities.

The Enugu Police Command spokesperson also assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the criminal gang members that fled, while investigations continue.
