Eight passengers are believed to have d£owned after two speedboats collided in the Ikang area of Bakassi Local Government Area in Cross River State.
The incident happened September 6 when a speedboat carrying 13 Nigerian passengers heading toward Cameroon through Cameroonian waters struck another speedboat fitted with dual engines around the Tikoro area.
Five survivors were rescued by local fishermen in Cameroon waters and brought to safety.
The bodies of those feared d£ad were later recovered and taken to Simon Beach in Ikang.
Police have directed marine officers to ensure families properly identify the bodies before they are moved to the morgue.
State Police Command confirmed the incident Wednesday and said it was working with relevant authorities and affected families to establish the full circumstances.
