Police in Ogun State have arrested three women suspected of stealing children and rescued three children who were in their custody.
Detectives from Ibafo Division arrested Kikelomo Jimoh, 36, after investigating reports of child stealing in the area.
During questioning, she confessed and led police to the home of Blessing Anochike, 60, where three children were found.
A third suspect, Kayode Elizabeth, was also arrested.
The three rescued children are ages 12, 14 and 16. Police found that each child’s situation was different.
One girl, Christiana Olowokere, was allegedly sold for 500,000 naira.
Another boy, Olamilekan Abdurusheed, had run away from his parents but was later abducted.
The circumstances surrounding how the third child, Adeniji Rebecca, ended up in custody are still being investigated.
The police commissioner praised the detectives for their swift response and investigative work.
He assured residents that the police would continue targeting criminal networks that exploit vulnerable children.
The suspects remain in custody, and the case has been transferred to the state criminal investigation department for further investigation to establish the full details and identify anyone else involved.
The commissioner called on parents, guardians, schools, transport operators and community leaders to stay alert and report any suspicious activity involving children.
He urged the public to report unexplained disappearances, suspicious movements, unusual custody arrangements or any signs that children are being sold, abducted or exploited.
