Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim says the presidency should go to the North after President Tinubu’s second term, then return to the South-East.
Tinubu is from the South-West and is entitled to a second term.
After his eight years, the presidency should move North for another eight years.
Then it goes to the South-East.
This follows the principle of rotational presidency.
But the South-East needs to build alliances with other regions to achieve its goal.
You have to support others so they support you, Anyim said.
Political parties should operate like families built around common understanding and objectives.
They should focus on shared interests, not just what individuals get.
South-East leaders need to think beyond immediate benefits and focus on long-term goals.
The region cannot achieve its objectives alone.
Democracy and nation-building should be anchored on principles like justice, inclusivity, citizens’ rights, institutional development and the rule of law.
Anyim said his concern is ensuring future generations in the South-East feel a sense of belonging and have access to opportunities.
Not what he becomes personally, but that his children and younger people in the region feel included.
On Peter Obi, Anyim said he respects him but didn’t endorse his 2023 presidential campaign because they belong to different political camps.
Obi is his friend but they’re not in the same political family.
Anyim believes the APC can make significant impact in the South-East despite Obi’s influence in the region.
