ValueJet, in partnership with Gateway Air, the official state-owned airline of Ogun State, has commenced a new air service connecting Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, via Lagos.
The Abuja–Lagos–Gateway service is designed to provide a seamless connection between Nigeria’s political capital and Ogun State’s growing commercial and industrial corridor.
The new route is expected to make it easier for passengers travelling from Abuja to access Ogun State for business meetings, industrial site visits, government appointments, personal engagements and other commitments.
According to the airlines, the service combines Gateway Air’s mandate to strengthen Ogun State’s air connectivity with ValueJet’s operational expertise to provide a reliable connection between the Federal Capital Territory and the state.
Speaking on the service, Managing Director of ValueJet, Omololu Majekodunmi, said the early morning departure was designed to accommodate travellers with demanding schedules.
“Our daily Abuja–Lagos–Gateway service is about giving our passengers their day back. With the option to fly five days a week, whether you are travelling for business or personal engagements in Ogun State and its environs, the service provides a route that fits around a busy schedule,” Majekodunmi said.
Highlighting the vision behind the service, Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, said the Gateway Air operation was responding to the growing demand for stronger air connections between Ogun State and major commercial and population centres across Nigeria.
“Gateway Air services speak to the growing demand of residents, businesses, and visitors in Ogun State for air connectivity to major commercial and population centres across the country.
“His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has therefore directed that the airline continually review and optimise its schedule and fleet size in response to the needs, requirements and expectations of travellers,” Dairo said.
Ogun State has emerged as one of Nigeria’s major commercial and industrial corridors, with significant activity in manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, real estate and economic free trade zones.
The state’s proximity to Lagos, coupled with the presence of major businesses and industrial clusters, has continued to drive demand for efficient transportation links for investors, business owners, professionals, government officials and other travellers.
Regular air access through Gateway International Airport provides an additional connection to the economic corridor while reducing reliance on lengthy road journeys for passengers travelling from Abuja and other parts of the country.
The launch of the route also aligns with ValueJet’s broader strategy of supporting strategic partnerships and expanding air connectivity across Nigeria and the region.
In addition to its domestic network, ValueJet operates regional services to destinations including Accra and Banjul, with further expansion planned to Libreville and other destinations.
Recent fleet additions, including Boeing 737NG and CRJ-series aircraft, are expected to further support the airline’s growing operational capacity and its partnerships, including the Gateway Air service.
