South Korea’s spy agency says Kim Jong Un’s daughter, who is believed to be his successor, has a younger brother or sister whose gender is unknown.
The agency has previously said the North Korean leader has three children, but their exact order of birth has been unclear.
Now officials believe Kim Ju Ae, his daughter, is being prepared to take over leadership and that she has a younger sibling.
The agency also said it is still trying to confirm whether Kim Ju Ae has an older brother, but even if he does exist, he is not in a position to become the next leader.
Kim Ju Ae was first shown to the public in 2022 when she went with her father to watch the launch of a long-range missile.
Since then, she has appeared at many major political events alongside the North Korean leader, including an important visit to China.
State media in North Korea has called her “the beloved child” and a “great person of guidance,” terms normally reserved for top leaders and their successors.
The Kim family has ruled North Korea tightly for decades, with a personality cult around their “Paektu bloodline” controlling life in the isolated country.
