Nigerian entertainer, comedian and filmmaker Koffi Tha Guru has staged his comedy and music show, Koffi Tha Guru Live in Dallas: Culture Shock, drawing a capacity crowd in Richardson, Texas, while adding three international awards to his growing list of honours.
The show, held on August 30, 2026, at The Icon restaurant in Richardson, combined comedy, music and audience participation around the experiences of Africans adjusting to life in the United States.
The event was organised by Koffi Tha Guru’s United States-based company, Fun Media, in partnership with Big A Entertainment, organisers of AFRIIMA.
According to the organisers, the event attracted predominantly VIP guests from across the Dallas-Fort Worth community and featured performances by Tejubabyface, MC Happy, Tosin Opaleke, MC Edies and Tito Vibration, while veteran Nigerian DJ Humility handled the closing music session.
The programme took an interactive turn when Koffi Tha Guru invited members of the audience to recount their own experiences of arriving in the United States and confronting unfamiliar systems, laws and lifestyles.
The comedian used the stories as part of the show’s central theme, Culture Shock, moving between his own experiences and those shared by members of the audience.
Koffi Tha Guru took over the stage at about 7:15 p.m., following an introduction by Tejubabyface, and built his routine around experiences he said he encountered while settling into the American environment.
Among the experiences featured in his performance were his time working as a delivery driver, making films in Arlington, losing money after being scammed and eventually receiving assistance from people he met in Dallas.
The audience participation became a major feature of the show, with several guests taking the microphone to share personal experiences of their own.
The event later moved from comedy into music when Koffi Tha Guru performed “Lagos To Texas,” the first single from his forthcoming album, Last Known Address.
The song was produced by Nigerian music producer Puffy T and includes references to people who, according to the performer, supported him during his early experiences in Dallas.
The performance prompted some guests to join him on the dance floor, while some audience members sprayed cash during the presentation.
Tito Vibration subsequently performed to close the live entertainment segment, before DJ Humility took over with a selection of popular songs.
The event attracted several members of the Dallas-Fort Worth Nigerian and African entertainment, business and cultural communities.
Among those listed as attendees were Abiodun Akinfenwa, identified by the organisers as a business magnate and president of the Yoruba Cultural Alliance Group USA, as well as a patron of the Yoruba Cultural Center and former president of the Ibadan Descendants Union Dallas.
Other guests included actresses and producers Tina Chukwura and Mistura Asunramu; Yeye Amuludun of Dallas; entertainment executive Teniewa of Teniewa Entertainment; Charles Ojo of Watermark Promotions; and Kunle Akinjagunla, CEO of Lagos Urban Culture clothing brand.
Also in attendance were gospel musician Henry Soul, comedian Jedi, who represented sponsor FinServe Pro, and Ajoke Mawule Ajayi, CEO of Mawule’s Catering Dallas.
Representatives of Kes Spicy Suya also attended as supporters of the event.
The programme was filmed by Emmanuel Ugochukwu of JB16 Media, while photography was handled by Caribbean photojournalist and media correspondent Jason Inanga.
The Dallas event comes as Koffi Tha Guru records further recognition for his film work.
According to the information supplied by the organisers, his film “Mumble Jumble” won three awards on September 12, 2026, at events in Toronto.
The film was named Best African Comedy Film, while Koffi Tha Guru received the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Film. The production also won Best Cast Ensemble.
The awards were attributed to the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) and the Toronto International Comedy Art and Film Festival (TICAFF).
Other films associated with Koffi Tha Guru, including “Ajala Travels,” “A Maid Solution,” “Clown In Town,” “The Unorthodox” and the recently produced “Destination Dallas” and “The Delivery Guy,” were also described as having received nominations in Canada.
The filmmaker’s latest Texas production is “Ajala Travels 2 Texas,” which he recently completed filming in Dallas.
A watch party for the film is scheduled for October 1, after which the movie is expected to proceed to its official theatrical release.
Koffi Tha Guru’s recent projects have increasingly combined comedy, music and film, with his work drawing on experiences of Nigerians and other Africans living outside the continent.
The Culture Shock performance similarly centred on the immigrant experience, but differed from a conventional stand-up show by allowing members of the audience to contribute their own stories to the performance.
The format provided the framework for the evening’s comedy, while the subsequent music performances extended the event beyond stand-up entertainment.
Following the Dallas show and the Toronto awards, Koffi Tha Guru is scheduled to return to the stage later in the year.
In partnership with Chef Temii LLC, he and his collaborators are scheduled to host a social event titled “Just Before Winter” on November 27, 2026.
