The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of Northern and Central Nigeria on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The agency, in its daily weather forecast covering the period from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., said morning thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall were expected in parts of Adamawa, Kebbi and Taraba states.
NiMet said most states in the Northern region could also experience thunderstorms and moderate rainfall during the afternoon and evening.
In the Central region, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara states, the agency forecast morning thunderstorms with light rainfall in some locations.
It added that moderate rainfall was expected across most parts of the Central region later in the day.
For the southern part of the country, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions with light rainfall in parts of Ebonyi, Edo, Delta, Abia, Cross River, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states during the morning.
The agency further forecast light rainfall across parts of the South-East, South-South and South-West regions in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet cautioned that moderate rainfall, especially across the Northern and Central regions, could lead to temporary water accumulation and localised flooding in low-lying communities and areas with poor drainage.
Residents were advised to stay away from open spaces during thunderstorms and seek shelter in safe locations. The agency also recommended disconnecting electrical appliances where necessary.
Motorists were urged to exercise caution because rainfall could reduce visibility and make roads slippery. Residents were also advised against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads.
NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather information from the agency to support safe flight planning and operations.
