The Plateau State House of Assembly has called for urgent security help in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area following recent att@cks on communities there.
Lawmakers also demanded full occupation of the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish and asked for urgent fixing of damaged buildings and aid to communities hit by the att@cks.
The Assembly asked Governor Caleb Mutfwang to contact President Tinubu and the Police Inspector-General to arrange the intervention.
The call followed a motion backed by lawmakers which was adopted during Wednesday’s session.
The Assembly wants urgent steps to strengthen security presence and protect communities affected by the security trouble in Barkin Ladi.
The House also started looking at a Bill to amend the 1999 Constitution to allow for the creation of State Police Services.
This came after a message from the National Assembly about the proposed constitutional change was sent to the House through the governor.
The Majority Leader moved the motion for the Bill which was seconded by another member.
The Speaker said the proposed State Police Service would work alongside the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen security work at the state and community levels.
He stressed the need for good coordination between the Nigeria Police Force and any State Police Services to improve security, protect lives and property and handle security challenges better.
The Assembly also started looking at other bills.
One seeks to repeal and rewrite the College of Education, Gindiri Law from 1988 and set up the Plateau State College of Education, Gindiri, with rules covering how it runs, is managed, teaches and gets money.
This Bill was read for the first time.
Another Bill seeks to set up the Plateau State Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment as a network of centres for checking and treating breast, cervical, prostate and other cancers.
The Speaker called the Bill timely, noting the need to expand access to cancer checking and treatment facilities.
He said the proposed institute would give hope to poor residents of Plateau State and beyond.
The Bill was read a second time and sent to the Health Committee for more work.
The Assembly also looked at a Bill to set up the Plateau State Tourism Corporation.
The House also got a notice of motion praising Tinubu and the governor for setting up an Army Brigade in Langtang North Local Government Area and other new military units in Plateau state.
