The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected k!dn@pper identified as Olisa Oyelu, also known as Obele, for k!dn@pping and @rmed robbery in connection with a 2023 k!dn@pping incident that resulted in a victim’s d£ath.
Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department arrested the suspect in the early hours of Wednesday following long intelligence gathering and careful investigation.
The suspect is alleged to have been an active member of the gang involved in the k!dn@pping operation and was a member of the notorious @rmed robbery and k!dn@pping gang led by a suspected criminal known as Pincode.
At the end of investigation, the Command will hand over the suspect to the correctional centre where Pincode and four others are already held, waiting for court judgment.
The arrest represents a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Police say the arrest followed months of intelligence work and detailed inquiry aimed at identifying, arresting and prosecuting all persons connected with the crime.
The police commission commended the operatives for their hard work, dedication and intelligence-led approach to the investigation.
The commissioner assured residents that the Command will continue to pursue criminal elements inside and outside the state until they face the law.
The commissioner also urged the public to keep giving police solid and timely information, noting that security is everyone’s responsibility.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command arrested a suspect on Monday in connection with a k!dn@p-and-k!ll threat made against a 50-year-old resident of Seni Salla Village, Saki and his family members.
The arrest followed a report received by police and a follow-up intelligence operation.
The complaint was made on September 19 at about 6:20pm when the person reported he had received threatening calls from unknown people on September 13.
