Operatives of Kano Police Command have arrested eight notorious drug addicts and five suspected thugs who have been causing havoc across Panshekata and Kunchi/Ghari Local Government Areas in recent swift raids the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, described the swift raids as significant operational successes, carried out in two separate intelligence-driven operations targeting drug peddling and thuggery within the state.
According to him: “The achievements are in furtherance of the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on sustained intelligence-led operations and community-based policing.”
Mr. Bakori who gave the directive for the raids, urged his men and officers to dominate the public space and deny criminals any safe haven.
Giving details of the arrests, the Police boss hinted that on Tuesday, 9th September, 2026, operatives of the Surveillance Team attached to Panshekara Police Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted Samson Yakubu, aged 21, of Samegu Quarters and seven other suspects at a black spot within the area.
During a thorough search, 15 pieces of Pregabalin Capsules, five pieces of Diazepam Tablets, 10 pieces of Exol Tablets, and some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp were recovered from them.
The suspects are currently in custody undergoing interrogation as investigation continues to unravel the source of the illicit drugs and other members of the syndicate.
In a related operation, on 9th September, 2026, operatives attached to Kunchi/Ghari Division conducted a coordinated market patrol and raid at Matanfada Market, an area notorious for youths who intimidate traders and residents during market sessions.
The operation led to the arrest of five suspects namely Abdullahi Isah of Dustin, Haruna Isah of Daqarawa village, Habu Badamasi of Dan Taimu Village, Gambo Ya’u of Kura Village, and Abubakar Dahiru of Farau Village.
Investigation is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to identify and arrest other accomplices, while exhibits recovered have been taken into custody as evidence.
CP I Bakori commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift action.
He reiterated that the Command will sustain the tempo in the fight against drug abuse, thuggery, and all forms of violent crimes across the state.
“In line with the IGP’s policing vision and our mandate to ensure a safe and secure Kano, we will continue to be proactive.
“We are sending a clear message to criminal elements that Kano State will not be a breeding ground for their activities,” he stated.
He said the Command appreciated members of the public, community leaders, and vigilante groups for providing timely and actionable information that aided these operations.
He called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station.
“All suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
“The Kano State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to rid the State of crime and ensure the safety of lives and property,” he added.
