Police in Katsina State have fought off b@ndits and rescued four people in Dutsin-Ma, recovering a rifle and ammunition in the process.
The victims three women and an infant were taken from Makwanta village in the early hours of Wednesday during an armed att@ck.
Officers at Dutsin-Ma Division received a distress call around 12:22 am and quickly mobilised a team to pursue the fleeing b@ndits.
The police tracked them down along the border between Dutsin-Ma and Danmusa councils and opened fire, forcing the gunmen into the surrounding bush with suspected injuries.
All four rescued persons were unharmed.
They included 14-year-old Marawiya Musa, 50-year-old Mariya Ibrahim, 21-year-old Amina Ibrahim and a nursing baby.
During a search of the area, officers found one AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, three MP3 players, a knife and three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police say the hunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for their swift and tactical response, reaffirming the command’s commitment to fighting b@nditry and other violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to remain alert and share information with security agencies that could help protect lives and property.
