Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday held a meeting with security chiefs in the state to assess ongoing operations and strengthen security arrangements ahead of the end-of-year festivities and other major events expected in Lagos.
The meeting, which took place at the State House, Marina, centred on the state’s current security situation and plans to further strengthen its security architecture ahead of the anticipated influx of visitors during the Yuletide.
Sanwo-Olu assured Lagos residents and visitors that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property and preventing criminal activities across the state.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
The security chiefs briefed the governor on ongoing operations across Lagos and measures being considered to enhance public safety in the coming months.
Those present at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig.-Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro.
The meeting was held as Lagos prepared to receive President Bola Tinubu from Tuesday, with the President expected to participate in several official engagements during his stay in the state.
The state is also making preparations for increased movement and activities during the Yuletide, with a significant number of visitors expected to travel to Lagos for the festivities.
In addition to the festive period, the government is anticipating heightened religious, cultural and political activities following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s announcement on the commencement of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
