Access Holdings Leads NGX Volume With 33.3 Million Shares Traded

Access Holdings Plc emerged as the most actively traded equity by volume on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) on Monday as investors exchanged 33.28 million shares worth N955.99 million.

The banking group led a trading session heavily dominated by financial stocks with four banks ranking among the five most actively traded equities by volume.

Zenith Bank followed Access Holdings with 27.98 million shares worth N3.63 billion, while Jaiz Bank recorded 27.61 million shares valued at N211.39 million.

Regency Alliance Insurance posted 27.15 million shares worth N22.66 million, while FCMB completed the five most active stocks with 26.22 million shares valued at N288.54 million.

Together, the five equities accounted for approximately 142.24 million shares, representing about 35.1 percent of the 405.39 million shares traded across the NGX during Monday’s session.

The dominance of banking stocks was even more pronounced.

Access Holdings, Zenith Bank, Jaiz Bank and FCMB recorded a combined 115.09 million shares, meaning the four banks alone accounted for approximately 28.4 percent of total market volume.

Their combined transaction value stood at about N5.09 billion, equivalent to roughly 25.6 percent of the N19.87 billion traded across the equities market.

The latest activity extends the strong presence of banking stocks in NGX turnover.

During the preceding week, financial services accounted for 73.84 percent of total equity trading volume and 52.39 percent of transaction value with Access Holdings, Zenith Bank and UBA alone responsible for more than one-third of market volume.

Monday’s trading therefore showed that investor activity remained heavily concentrated in banking equities at the beginning of the new week.

Overall, investors exchanged 405.39 million shares valued at N19.87 billion across 52,977 deals during the session.

Trading volume increased from the 322.01 million shares recorded on Friday, even as the broader market remained under pressure.

The NGX All-Share Index declined 0.25 percent to 247,736.24 points, extending the previous week’s losses, while equity market capitalisation closed at N160.853 trillion.

Despite the weaker benchmark index, Access Holdings’ 33.3 million-share turnover placed it at the centre of Monday’s trading activity as banking stocks continued to command a substantial share of liquidity on the Nigerian Exchange.
