Borno govt links prolonged Maiduguri blackout to grid fault, power plant failure

Borno State Government has attributed the prolonged power outage affecting Maiduguri and other parts of the state to a fault on the national grid transmission network and a technical problem at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant.

The Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Mohammed Lawan Buba, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Friday.

Buba said the two faults had disrupted electricity supply across several communities, adding that repairs were ongoing.

He explained that the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, were working together to resolve the problems and restore normal power supply.

The commissioner urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities while repair work continued.

He also appealed to residents to protect electricity facilities and other power infrastructure in their communities against vandalism.

The prolonged blackout has left residents and businesses in Maiduguri struggling with days without public power supply, forcing many to rely on generators and other alternative sources of electricity.
