GTCO Leads NGX Trading Value With N2.44 Billion Turnover

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc led trading by value on the Nigerian Exchange on Thursday after investors exchanged 19.04 million shares worth N2.44 billion.

GTCO’s N2.44 billion turnover represented approximately 15.9 percent of the N15.31 billion traded across the equities market during the session.

The financial services group ranked second by volume among the five most actively traded stocks, behind United Bank for Africa, which recorded 36.37 million shares worth N1.56 billion.

GTCO’s trading activity moderated compared with the previous session. On Wednesday, investors exchanged 12.17 million GTCO shares worth N1.56 billion.

Thursday’s volume therefore increased by approximately 56.4 percent, while transaction value rose by about 56.4 percent to N2.44 billion.

The increase in GTCO activity contrasted with the broader decline in market turnover.

Total transaction value on the NGX dropped 46.4 percent to N15.31 billion from N28.59 billion on Wednesday, while trading volume declined 8.9 percent to 286.76 million shares.

UBA led the market by volume with 36.37 million shares valued at N1.56 billion, while Access Holdings recorded 16.98 million shares worth N482.63 million.

VFD Group traded 14.26 million shares valued at N200.14 million, while Zenith Bank recorded 12.34 million shares worth N1.58 billion.

GTCO alone accounted for nearly N1 out of every N6 traded on the equities market during Thursday’s session, highlighting the concentration of transaction value in the banking stock despite weaker overall market activity.

The Nigerian equities market closed marginally higher with the NGX All-Share Index gaining 0.01 percent to 247,707.13 points, its second consecutive positive close.
