Jigawa Assembly approves State Police Bill

‎The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved the proposed constitutional amendment seeking the establishment of state police in Nigeria.

‎

‎The Speaker of the House, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced the approval during plenary on Tuesday.

‎

‎He said the approval is aimed at strengthening community policing and improving security at the state and local government levels.

‎

‎He explained that the proposed amendment was transmitted to the Jigawa State House of Assembly for consideration following its passage by the Senate and the House of Representatives.

‎

‎The development forms part of ongoing efforts to decentralise policing in Nigeria and give state governments greater responsibility for addressing security challenges within their jurisdictions.

‎

‎Recall that the National Assembly has given a 30-day deadline for the state legislatures to communicate their positions, on either supporting or opposing the bill.
