The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has said the decisions Nigerians make today will determine the future of generations yet unborn.
Ojajuni stated this on Thursday at an Independence Day symposium organised by The International Friendship League (IFL) to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The event, themed “Nigeria at 66: A Call to Citizenship Transformation,” was held at the Presidential Conference Hall, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, with the sub-theme “Transformed Citizens, Transformed Nation.”
Describing the gathering as more than a celebration, the Commissioner said it was a platform for reflection and meaningful dialogue on leadership, national values and Nigeria’s future.
“The future should always be taken into cognisance. today’s decisions, conduct and values have consequences for generations yet unborn,” Ojajuni said.
Drawing from his experience in policing and leadership, Ojajuni stressed that the future must always be taken into consideration, noting that today’s decisions, conduct and values have consequences for generations yet unborn.
He recalled that when some professors asked why he wanted to pursue a PhD, he explained that his desire was “to give future generations the knowledge of the past, so that our values and lessons would not die with us.”
Ojajuni identified integrity, discipline, knowledge, service and respect for shared values as essential to national development, stressing that transformation must begin with individuals and be reflected in leadership, institutions and society.
He commended the IFL for creating a platform for meaningful dialogue on citizenship and leadership, urging Nigerians to use the 66th Independence Anniversary to renew their commitment to nation-building.
The Commissioner felicitated with Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, wishing them a peaceful and prosperous Independence celebration.
