Nasarawa State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the 2027 election, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu has condemned the reported attack on Ogobo community in Udege Area Administrative Council, which left five persons critically injured.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, was allegedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen who invaded the predominantly Afo community with AK-47 rifles and machetes, shooting sporadically and inflicting deep cuts on residents.
Reacting to the development, Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), described the attack as “heartbreaking, barbaric and unacceptable.”
He stated this in a statement issued by his Campaign Council and signed by its Director of Digital Media and Strategic Communications, High Chief Otaru Douglas.
Adamu expressed deep concern over the incident and commiserated with the injured victims and the entire Afo community.
The council also called for calm and urged youths in the area to avoid reprisal attacks, while appealing to residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
It, however, faulted the Nasarawa State Government over what it described as a lukewarm and insensitive response to the security challenges confronting rural communities across the state.
“The continued killings have become a recurring decimal because the state government has adopted a lukewarm, detached and insensitive posture to the plight of its people.
“Governance is not about issuing condolences after every attack; it is about preventing the next attack,” the statement said.
The council also called on the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to urgently deploy personnel to the affected community, secure residents, and ensure that those responsible for the attack are arrested and prosecuted.
It further assured that, if elected governor in 2027, Adamu would overhaul the state’s security architecture through an intelligence-driven, community-based and technology-supported approach focused on protecting lives and property.
As of press time, the Nasarawa State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the reported attack.
