A 23-year-old YouTuber, Chhavi Varshney, from Uttar Pradesh, India and her mother were killed after the car they were travelling in rammed into the rear of a truck on the Ujjain-Garoth highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Agar Malwa district on Tuesday morning.
Three others, including her father, were seriously injured. The accident took place at around 6 am near Ramakhedi village.
According to local media, the speeding Ertiga car crashed into the rear of a truck travelling ahead of it. The impact was so severe that the car was mangled beyond recognition.
The truck also reportedly lost control after the collision, broke through the roadside railing and veered off the road.
Bystanders alerted the police and ambulance services and rushed to help the occupants of the car. One of the women was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated during the rescue operation.
The victims were identified as Sarika, 50, and her daughter Chhavi Varshney, 23, both residents of Uttar Pradesh.
The two were taken to the Community Health Centre in Barod, where the two were declared dead.
Three others were travelling with Sarika and her daughter Chhavi when the accident occurred. They included Chhavi’s father, Shyamlal, relative Surajpal and driver Sachin, all of whom sustained serious injuries.
After receiving first aid, the three were referred to the district hospital for further treatment. Shyamlal, 54, runs a grocery shop in Mahaukhas village, Uttar Pradesh.
The family had left for Ujjain on Monday night for a pilgrimage when their car met with the accident.
Chhavi Varshney was a popular YouTuber with more than 7 lakh subscribers on her channel. She also had over 1 lakh followers on Instagram.
According to her cousin, Sachin Varshney, Chhavi had been talented since childhood and had completed her graduation. He said she performed well in her studies and was always keen to do something different in life.
Chhavi started her YouTube channel in 2021, initially posting vlogs and videos based on her daily life. As her reach grew rapidly, she later began creating online gaming content as well.
Her family supported her work on social media and encouraged her to pursue her interests, her cousin said.
