Rihanna’s long-awaited return to music may be closer than fans expected after her husband, rapper A$AP Rocky, revealed that the singer is currently working on new material.
Rocky made the revelation during an appearance on The Jason Lee Show, where he was asked if Rihanna’s busy life as a mother of three was the reason behind the delay of her ninth studio album.
The rapper admitted that family life had played a role but surprised fans by confirming that Rihanna was back in the studio.
“Respectfully, you’re right. But yo, she’s in the studio right now,” Rocky said.
Realising he had revealed information Rihanna may have preferred to keep private, he looked at the camera and added: “Yeah, I said it. Sorry, babe.”
The rapper continued to tease fans about the project, saying Rihanna was “cooking” new music.
“She working. She cooking, bro. No funny s***,” he said.
Rocky then joked that he could face consequences at home for sharing the update.
“Damn. I’mma get in trouble for this,” he said.
Rihanna’s ninth studio album has been one of the most anticipated projects in contemporary music, with fans waiting nearly a decade since the release of her last album, Anti, in 2016.
The singer, who shares three children — RZA, Riot and Rocki — with Rocky, has focused in recent years on business ventures, fashion and motherhood while stepping away from regular music releases.
The confirmation from Rocky follows earlier reports that Rihanna has been working on new music, with sources suggesting the project has gone through several changes in direction.
Her record label has previously assured fans that the album is in development, with Rihanna’s team saying the challenge is creating a project capable of matching the success and impact of her previous work.
