As Commissioner of Police, Akin Victor Fakorede prepares to celebrate his 55th birthday on August 22, 2026, colleagues, associates and admirers across Nigeria are expected to reflect on a career spanning more than three decades of dedicated service to the Nigeria Police Force. He was born on Sunday August 22, 1971, in Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Southwest, Nigeria.
CP Akin Fakorede joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Inspector after training at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of the country’s most experienced investigator, earning recognition for his professionalism, discipline and commitment to combating crimes and criminality.
A lawyer by profession, CP Fakorede obtained his law degree from the University of Calabar before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus, where he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2007.
He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Calabar. His blend of legal expertise and policing experience have distinguished him in criminal investigations and law enforcement.
Throughout his career, Fakorede has held several strategic positions within the Police Force. He served as Commander of the now-defunct Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) in Rivers State, where he gained national attention for leading operations against violent crimes and kidnappings.
He also served in the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit before his appointment in April 2026 as Commissioner of Police and Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Lagos, one of the Force’s most critical investigative formations.
Beyond Nigeria’s borders, Fakorede has participated in international peacekeeping missions, serving under the United Nations in Darfur and the African Union Mission in Somalia.
He has also undergone extensive professional trainings in detective work, forensic investigations, management and peace support operations, equipping him with skills that have shaped his approach to modern policing.
Over the years, he has earned praises from senior police officers, political leaders and members of the public for his integrity, courage and dedication to justice. Admirers often describe him as a disciplined officer who combines firmness with respect for the rule of law, while mentoring younger officers and promoting professionalism within the Force.
As he marks his 55th birthday, the occasion provides an opportunity to celebrate not only his personal milestone, but also his enduring contributions to policing, criminal investigations and public service. With his wealth of experience and continued leadership at the FCID Anti-Fraud Unit, many believe Fakorede remains well positioned to contribute further to the fight against financial crimes, organized criminal networks and other complex offences in Nigeria.
For family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers, the celebration is expected to be both a tribute to an accomplished career and an expression of hope for many more years of impactful service to the nation and humanity.
