Three persons have been arrested for alleged murder of a 56-year-old man identified as Kelechi Madu over land transaction in Awkuzu community, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The incident occurred on Aug. 17, the spokesperson for Anambra Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Awka.
He said that the command uncovered the circumstances surrounding Madu’s murder following the detention of his friend.
“When we got hold of his friend, he confessed to have plotted the murder by engaging two other persons,” he said.
The police spokesperson said that the police in collaboration with local vigilance group discovered Madu’s lifeless body in a nearby bush in Umuobi, Awkuzu.
“He was given a deep axe cut on the head, the remains have been evacuated and deposited in a morgue,” he said.
According to Ikenga, preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect obtained money from the deceased under the guise of assisting him to acquire a piece of land.
He said that the suspect decided to plot the murder in order to conceal every information relating to the land transaction.
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, has directed full investigation into the matter.
He said that the command would do everything possible to bring every person connected to the crime to justice.
The police image maker assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community partnership across the state.
“The essence is to prevent violent crimes, unravel criminal activities, and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law,” he said.
