Afrobeats musician Davido has suggested he might step away from music at some point in the future.

During an interview on a podcast, the singer said he does not plan to still be performing when he is 40 years old, competing with younger artists in their 20s.

Davido stressed that he is not saying other established musicians should leave the industry. Instead, he is simply thinking about his own path.

He said music is central to who he is, but he knows there is a time to move on to other things.

He pointed to Jay-Z as an example of someone who took a break from music and still found great success doing other work.

The 33-year-old believes he could take a long break even ten years and still come back to huge success because he has built up such a strong catalogue of hit songs over his career.

He said people would always want to hear his music, so he could afford to step away without worrying about losing relevance.

Davido also said that music should open doors for artists to explore opportunities beyond just making and performing songs.

His main point is that success in music can give artists the freedom to move into other areas of business and life, rather than staying focused only on recording and touring forever.
