Dotun Oladipo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, has died at age 56.
The company is parent to Eagle Online news platform.
Eagle Online announced his death early Wednesday, saying Oladipo was in good health earlier in the day before falling ill suddenly at his office.
According to reports, he drove himself to a hospital hours before he passed away.
Danlami Nmodu, president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, confirmed the death on the guild’s messaging platform Tuesday.
Oladipo served as the guild’s former president.
Nkanu Egbe, general secretary of Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, announced on Wednesday that Oladipo died Tuesday, August 25, in Lagos.
He said Oladipo led the cooperative with dedication while building a journalism career spanning nearly three decades, and that his death is a devastating loss to both the organisation and Nigerian journalism.
Funeral arrangements and other details will be shared later.
The cooperative’s executive committee asked members to keep Oladipo’s family and the group in their prayers.
African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore described Oladipo as a complete gentleman, accomplished digital journalist and remarkable human being, offering condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in the journalism community.
Oladipo previously worked as politics editor at several publications including PUNCH Newspapers, Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before founding Eagle Online.
He obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta in 1992.
