Tension briefly flared at the polling unit of Osun State Deputy Governor and Accord Party deputy governorship candidate, Prince Kola Adewusi, during Saturday’s governorship election in Ile-Ife.
The incident occurred shortly after the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Benjamin Kayode Adereti, arrived at Adewusi’s polling unit.
Adereti had earlier cast his ballot at his designated polling unit, Waasin Polling Unit 11, Ilaare Ward 3, before proceeding to the polling unit of the serving deputy governor.
His arrival, however, was met with resistance from some supporters of Adewusi who were at the polling unit, resulting in a heated confrontation.
The situation briefly disrupted the otherwise peaceful atmosphere at the polling location as supporters exchanged words and tensions rose.
Although the immediate reason for Adereti’s visit and the precise trigger for the confrontation were not immediately clear, the presence of the APC candidate appeared to have unsettled some of the deputy governor’s supporters.
The situation was, however, brought under control, with no injuries or arrests recorded at the polling unit.
Voting subsequently continued at the location as voters exercised their franchise in the closely contested Osun governorship election.
