Man allegedly opens fire at Kano wedding over loud music, kills one

There was pandemonium after a 34-year-old man, Rabiu Mukthar, allegedly opened fire at a marriage ceremony in Kano, killing one person and injuring three others.

The Kano State Police Command spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, saying the man came out of his house while music was playing at the marriage ceremony and opened fire on those attending the event.

He said Mukthar, of Tudun Yola Quarters, used a pump-action gun to sporadically shoot at the gathering during the marriage celebration.

CSP Kiyawa said that immediately after receiving information about the incident, the police swung into action, arresting Mukthar and another person, while the gun was recovered from him.

Mukthar, 34, reportedly told the police that the people who organised the musical event did not consult him and that he was disturbed by the sound of the music, which prevented him from sleeping. He reportedly said this was why he decided to open fire.

The suspect and the other person arrested in connection with the incident are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kano State Police Command.
